The early 19th century was the industrialization era in America.  One reason why the Wright Brothers were successful in their innovation of the airplane was because of industrialization.  In the 1830’s the iron industry began in Pennsylvania. This changed America by the start of railroads, spread of agriculture, and the uprising of iron structures.  The iron revolution lead to the manufacturing of goods in factories.  During the Civil war in 1861, everything changed.  America started making their goods in mass quantities, replacing workers with heavy machinery.  Jobs started opening up, because people were needed to work the machines.  These new job opportunities persuaded people to move towards big cities, creating dense populations.  Dense populations resulted in improvements in technology.  In 1867 the type writer was invented, in 1876 the telephone, and in 1877 the phonograph.  With all of these events leading up to the innovation of the airplane, the Wright brothers had America’s history backing them up.
